2016 ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Symposium

A 2.5-day American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) clinical pharmacy symposium was hold at TMU on Sep 23-25th. ACCP, the cornerstone professional and scientific society of clinical pharmacy, provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources enabling clinical pharmacists to achieve excellence in clinical pharmacy practice and research. The influence of ACCP is well-recognized by its members over 60 countries.

TMU Pharmacy appreciated this opportunity and will continue to cooperate with ACCP. Two hundred clinical pharmacists, clinical faculties or preceptors from different areas in the country joined this great event. The symposium began with a welcome speech by Professor Jackson Wu, Dean of TMU Pharmacy, and introduction by Dr. Michael Maddux, executive director of ACCP. Dr. Curtis Hass, Dr. John M. Dr. Burke and Dr. Alan Lau, delivered speeches on updates of pharmacotherapy and practice skills for fluids and electrolytes/acid-base, endocrinology and nephrology. The symposium also provided the opportunities to sharpen the participants’ clinical skills through interactive case discussion.

The symposium concluded with an open discussion on how to advance clinical pharmacy practice in Taiwan. This successful symposium provided a great opportunity for participants to acquire updated pharmacotherapeutic knowledge and courage to continue great practices with momentum. The development of clinical pharmacy in Taiwan, although still requires long-lasting efforts, will lead to a promising future. (The organizing committee would like to thank TMU International Office for its financial supports. And also thanks to China Medical University and Taiwan Society of Healthcare system Pharmacists for their continuous supports and efforts on ACCP Pharmacotherapy Symposium).
